MIDDLE STATES ACCREDITATION

The Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools is one of three accreditation units of the regional accrediting body. MSCES works with private and public schools that serve the elementary age population. It has provided accreditation protocols to schools since 1988. All protocols rely on the concept of peer-evalution and self-regulation to provide continuous school improvement.

Accreditation is not required by state or federal laws. It is a voluntary, on-going improvement process designed to assure the public of the quality of the school's offerings. It is a peer-review process by members of the education community.

The Process to Accreditation:

1. A self-study, where a school develops self-knowledge through the lens of its philosophy, mission and beliefs.

2. An evaluation procedure, in which peers objectively confirm the findings of the self study.

3. A planning process, where the entity plans for improvement.

4, A standard review, verified through the Middles States Commission.

Modern accreditation is an activity, not a status. Schools are accredited today because of the way they move, not the way they stand. The goal is to have accredited schools engage in continuous improvement.

St. Mark School received its initial Middle States Accreditation on April 27, 2002.

The third year Progress Report was on May 30, 2005.

The sixth Year Report was on May 8, 2008.

St. Mark School has undertaken periodic reviews and will begin the Strategic Planning process during the 2010-2011 school year.
